Story

I love to cook.

"My sister would shoot out on her bike, and I would go to the kitchen and learn from Mum. She’s my inspiration. On a Saturday, she would have twelve dishes ready by 2 pm and the kitchen sparkling clean."

When I try something new in a restaurant, I go home and try to recreate it. It does not always taste the same, but the experimentation is exciting. And because I love making new things, I do not want to wait for things to cook just because I do not have the right tool. I am always on the lookout for making my kitchen life easier – as a mum and food lover. If it works for me, I share it. If I can make your life easier, I will share it. But only if it works in my kitchen!

Thought up by Veebha,
developed by Tariq

So it was with the mySpike. A good kebab is usually about eating out, a kind of finale to an evening out with friends. You eat and chat about the day. And we wanted to recreate that at home, both the taste and atmosphere. So I tried to DIY it. Skewers, supports, the potato method – all failed. Meat scorched on the outside and raw in the middle, wooden supports toppling over and oh, the mess. More cooking and less cleaning is another motivation behind the design. Tariq started prototyping, and we finally arrived with the mySpike you see today.

It’s all about the base

Not too thin, not too thick, just right.

The design is no accident, it’s researched. We tested a number of prototypes, and this works best – we know, we tested it. Pleasant to the touch and sturdy. No fallen over potatoes (we tried them too, and we prefer them as a side).

What’s wrong with a skewer? Why not wood?

Wood looks great, it’s great to the touch, but it does not conduct heat. Great for serving bowls, not so much for baking. Wooden skewers work on a grill because they are thin and offer just enough support to keep a portion of fruit, veg and meat on the grid horizontally. You can use them in an oven, but you have to open the doors now and again and turn them around to ensure an even bake. Not with mySpike.

mySpike cooks your food from the inside as well. The base heats up, and the spike heats up, so we make the most of the temperature. And you use fewer dishes are used in the process, which speeds up the cleaning time as well.

Why 2 sizes?

So that it fits your ovren perfectly – 20cm for small ovens and 25cm for big ones. That’s why we include only one in our kits, our experience shows the other one would be left unused, and we are all for making the most of resources. Also you do not have to load up the whole spike, just put what you want on it. It works just as well, is just as sturdy and heats up just as evenly. This means you do not need a smaller spike if you make something for 1 person. Choose the one that fits your oven and spike your appetite.

mySpike is a thought out, high-quality original tool designed to give your more cooking choices and make tasty cooking more fun and approachable.

Today we keep experimenting. You can already taste our spice mixes, and there will be more.

Whatever works in our kitchen, we share.

Our ambition is to put a mySpike in every kitchen. And if that reminds you of plans of a certain pc maker, well – good – we aim to become as ubiquitous because we know mySpike is just as helpful and much easier to use, even for someone who has never cooked before.

It’s a vertical cooking tool, soon to become – we believe – an ultimate one.

And we would like to thank all our supporters who have believed – and still believe in us – family, friends and early adopters. Your encouragement, feedback, reviews, posts and shares keep mySpike family growing.
